Foundation patching
Whether your rug has a small tear, a large hole, or extensive damage, I can provide a customized repair solution. Using traditional techniques and high-quality materials, I carefully reweave the damaged area, preserving the rug's original beauty and integrity. My expertise in rug weaving and conservation ensures that your treasured heirloom is restored to its former glory.
Re-weaving
Persian rugs can be damaged by rotting, corrosion, friction, cigarette fires, moth infestations, or water damage. However, regardless of the severity of the damage, rug restoration is possible. I can repair worn areas and reweave holes in your cherished antique rugs or handmade rugs. For small holes, I can often be guided by the rug's symmetrical pattern. However, for larger damaged areas, I must first create a map and then proceed with the reweaving process. During rug repair, it's crucial to use fibers and materials that perfectly match the original rug in both color and quality to ensure an authentic and seamless restoration.
Two knotting to roots
Two knotting on carpet fringes is the most frequently performed technique to complete carpet weaving. This crucial step involves selecting high-strength handmade carpet roots to prevent fringe fraying and ensure durability. As you can see in this video, we perform fringe knotting with professionalism, efficiency, and speed, resulting in a high-quality finish for your cherished carpet.
selvedges reinforcement
If the selvedge of your rug, also known as the side binding, is damaged or becomes loose, it can significantly impact the rug's overall condition and accelerate deterioration. While selvedge repair may seem minor, neglecting it can lead to more extensive damage and increase the cost of restoration. Selvedge repair involves carefully sewing and twisting a thread of separate yarn around the lateral threads to secure the edge. This process can be repeated several times throughout the rug's lifespan without compromising its commercial value or aesthetic appeal.
Low pile repair
While low pile in a rug may not pose an immediate threat, extremely low pile can expose the foundation, leading to serious rug damage. It's important to note that low pile does not necessarily indicate a rug's age or value. Factors such as environmental conditions, usage, and moth damage significantly influence pile height. Fortunately, rug repiling can effectively restore areas with low pile. Various methods, such as rug back cobblestoning, back hooking, or reweaving, can be used to cover the exposed foundation. However, selecting the most appropriate method and achieving an exact color and quality match in the restoration process demonstrates the rug repairer's expertise and dedication to preserving the rug's integrity.
